Mobile Services are those services that can be used anytime or the services that don’t require steady-state for using are regarded as Mobile Services. Mobile Services is basically a term that is collectively used for various cellular services and communication services. Services such as CDMA, GSM, GPRS, GPS etc. come under this category.
Previously for communicating, the user needed to be at a steady place such as an office, home, or some other place. But after the evolution of mobile technologies, we can communicate with any part of the world no matter where we are. For using such services we take aid from mobile devices such as Cellular phones, Pagers, Laptops, GPS devices, PDAs s and many others.
Wireless is a term used to describe communications through electromagnetic waves (without wires). These waves carry the signal over a part or on the entire communication path. Some monitoring devices, such as burglar alarms, send acoustic waves at frequencies above the hearing range of humans; these are also sometimes classified as wireless.
Wireless technology is rapidly evolving, and is playing an increasing role in the lives of people throughout the world. In addition, large numbers of people are relying on the technology directly or indirectly. All or most of the mobile devices communicate with each other through wireless communication. Without wireless services, mobile services can t be used as we can t carry a wire with the device for connectivity everywhere.
Business Class is highly benefited with this technology as they can carry out their communication from anywhere, like browsing of internet, sending emails, making phone calls, using chat or messenger services.
There are three main wireless technology communication platforms for using web services that are GPRS, WAP and EDGE.
• GPRS: Stands for General Packet Radio Service, is an enhancement to GSM technology that integrates GSM and IP technology. GPRS offers high-speed connectivity to the Web.
• WAP: WAP is an open international standard for wireless protocols which provide internet access on mobile phones independent of the service provider. For displaying content the mobile phone should have a WAP browser.
• EDGE: EDGE short of Enhanced Data Rate for GSM Evolution is an improved interface for mobile devices that was developed to meet the bandwidth requirements of 3rd Generation GSM services. It provides a download speed up to 384 kbps.
Wireless services are also used for communication and connectivity between the devices within an office or premises. The main drawback of using wireless services is security. Any person having a compatible device and access key can use the services. So to prevent such misusage of services and to manage the security, certain security features are also implemented such as WEP (wireless encryption protocol), WPA (Wi-Fi Protected Access).
These security protocols ensure that only a person with the valid access rights and key can use the service. Mobile and Wireless Services have changed the world communication rapidly and become a critical part of any communication system.
