Are Laptops For You Or Should You Stick With A Desktop?

For those who try to keep up with how fast technology moves probably find that their six-month-old computer might now be seen as out of date. That is pretty crazy, but it is not far from the truth. To this very day, desktops generally still receive most of the attention by their designers. Because of this, desktops have a lot of features that laptops still do not have.

The one big advantage that laptops have over desktops is the fact that they can be taken just about everywhere. When you own a laptop, you can take it on vacation with you, take to a park, to the beach, camping, a friend’s house, etc. Wherever you go, your laptop can surely go as well. On the flip side of this is that as easy as it is to carry your laptop around, it is just as easy for a thief to walk away with it.

The biggest disadvantage that laptops have compared to desktops is the issue of storage. No matter where you look, the most storage you can get for a laptop is probably about 120GB of storage. The desktop on the other hand has been known to have up to 500GB. Then there is the issue with battery life. One or two hours is probably the most common that you can use your wireless laptop before having to plug it into recharge. Some claim to go as long as five hours, but still, it is a limitation.

When it comes to entertainment, so far laptops fall short when compared to desktops. Desktops are capable of producing top-quality music, videos, slide shows, and high-quality gaming. As for the laptop, they can play these same things but there are always going to be limitations to how well they can handle the media.

When it comes to upgrading a computer, the desktop is going to offer you far more ways to upgrade, such as adding extra DVD players and burners, extra hard drives, and a variety of other types of upgrades. Laptops on the other hand are very hard to upgrade. You can put in a new hard drive, but there are no ways to upgrade their motherboards or their processors.

If you are thinking of getting a computer that will be used for multiple things, making it your main computer, then you might want to stick with a desktop. If mobility is your primary goal, then a laptop is great.

If you can afford it, it is probably a good idea to maybe have one of each to cover all your needs.
